The Environmental City Research Group, situated within the Department of Urban Design and Planning at Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea, is dedicated to advancing the planning and design of cities to enhance their adaptability to climate change and extreme events. Our primary focus centers on shaping cities to maximize their resilience by integrating microclimate and thermal comfort as pivotal elements. Notably, we address concerns such as urban ventilation, urban heat island, and fine dust.
 

In addition to our primary focus, we are actively engaged in the examination of the transformation of suburbs in Asia, exploring their emergence, evolution, and the impact on the daily lives of residents. Our investigations encompass the sustainability, resilience, and livability of these suburban areas. Notably, we seek to identify distinctive features that set them apart from their counterparts in American and European city regions.
 

Our research methodology involves a multifaceted approach, employing various technologies. We are committed to both practical and theoretical discussions, drawing insights from our observations and critiques. We welcome new ideas and actively seek collaboration with like-minded individuals and organizations.
